On the basis of consultations carried out from spring 2023 with the various stakeholders concerned by the management and valorization of asbestos mining residues (AMR) and taking into account the knowledge and expertise of the scientific community, the research programming of the NAO was established along four lines of research:
Axis 1 – Impacts on global health of the mobilization of RMA, from a single health perspective
Axis 2 – Emission and dispersion of RMA in the environment
Axis 3 – Practices in terms of management and valorization of RMA
Axis 4 – Development of communities in asbestos regions
Each of these lines of research will make it possible to establish the missing knowledge and the convincing data which will support the decisions of the different actors involved in the transformation of the liabilities of asbestos regions into sustainable assets.
This announcement was made by the Director General of the NAO, Ms. Annie Rochette, during a press conference held on November 27, 2023, in the presence of Ms. Isabelle Lecours, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière-Frontenac, and Mr. Robert Rousseau, general director of the Cégep de Thetford.
